Compton Catheter
Company Description
In this project, we have designed a double lumen peripheral catheter that is capable of simultaneous draw and return of fluid in a peripheral vein. The catheter was 3D-printed using stereolithography with a high resolution to accommodate finer details within the catheter. We designed a catheter that has an 18G lumen for the inflow of fluid from the vein to the apheresis machine, beginning around 20 millimeters from the distal end of the catheter and a 20G lumen for the outflow of fluid at the distal end of the catheter within the patient. The separation of the holes on the lumens ensures that there is minimal/no recirculation(i.e., the mixing of inflow and outflow fluids) occurring within the catheter. The catheter is connected to the dialysis machine with the help of tubes affixed with female luer connectors. These luer connectors ensure secure attachment of the catheter to the dialysis machine and help prevent leakage.
